Unit Summary
At the end of w.w.2 tension grew between the Siviet Union and America and lead to an era known as the Cold War. The American Government adopted the policy of Containment that was a policy that called for resisting the spread of Soviet Union power and Influence. In 1948 Soviet leader Stalin declared that they would block all rail, roads, or river traffic into West Berlin, but Americans and British help the city by flying in supplies that were needed and this was known to be the Berlin Airlift. This lasted for almost a year. The start of the Cold War and eventsat home helped trigger a second red scare in the late 1940s and into the early 1950s. After the war Americans feared about the spread of communism in Europe. Then the Soviet Union created an atomic bomb. Before the War took place with both North and South korea the allies decided to divide the korean peninsula in half which was known to be the 38th parallel. North Korean troops invaded South Korea. North Korean troops were armed with Soviet weapons and tanks and had most leaders in the United States surprised. Many troops had died.
